Reflections on the Summer and the season of Thanksgiving

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus.

The last few months were busy ones for my wife and I as we travelled to the different branch locations across Canada as well as relocated from Newfoundland to Fort McMurray, Alberta to serve as interim pastor until such time as needed for a pastor to be appointed. The Lord was gracious and merciful, granting us travelling mercies over many miles.  We praise Him for daily strength and good health to carry out each responsibility.

We arrived in Kitchener, Ontario on June 8, 2025. We enjoyed sweet fellowship with our family and the saints over the weekend. From there we travelled to Fort McMurray where we spent two weekends before flying to Portland Oregon for the International Camp meeting.

Following Portland Camp meeting, we attended Youth Camp in Newfoundland. While in Newfoundland we had the privilege to attend a combined service with Roddickton, Englee and Bide Arm.  Beautiful memories and experiences long to be remembered were made with our families and with God’s people.

From Newfoundland we eventually made our way to Ottawa where the long awaited for Special Meetings took place from August 28 – 31. Words are insufficient to relate how blessed we were to be a part of the first ever special meetings for this new group in Ottawa.  God blessed every detail of the meetings. Souls were saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Spirit as well as re-anointings and healings. May God be praised. (A full report of the Ottawa Special Meetings can be found on our Portland worldwide website).

Following the Ottawa Special meetings, we set out on the road to travel to Fort McMurray which was approximately 2,750 kms drive. Along the way, we stopped in Winnipeg to visit shortly with Pastor Samson, his wife and children and a couple of the brethren (Bro. Seyi and bro. Yammifi) from the new Regina group, recently started. We then had the privilege to attend a weekend celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the Calgary branch church. A larger celebration will take place, Lord willing, in 2026. Finally, we arrived in Fort McMurray on September 8.

October was a beautiful month of Thanksgiving, and across our churches, we embraced the opportunity to lift our voices in praise for the abundant blessings of our Lord. From the warmth of fellowship to the provision of daily bread, we have seen the hand of God at work in countless ways. Though the fall season is drawing to a close, its spirit of gratitude continues to resonate within our hearts.

The Apostle Paul exhorts us in Ephesians 5:20 to “give thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” This is not just a seasonal call — it is a lifestyle of worship.

We are grateful not only for what God has done, but for who He is: faithful, merciful, and full of grace. Above all, our hearts overflow with thanksgiving for the gift of salvation — the greatest blessing of all. Through Christ, we have been redeemed, restored, and given eternal hope. Let us never take for granted the costly means by which we have been reconciled to God.

October was also Pastor Appreciation month. The idea of showing appreciation to our pastors isn’t a modern invention—it’s rooted in Scripture. The Apostle Paul wrote,  “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.” Likewise, 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 reminds us to “respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord.” Pastor Appreciation Day provides a special moment to put those verses into action.

To the pastors and leaders of our Canadian district I wish to say that you are greatly appreciated for your labor of love and faithfulness in the work of the gospel.  May God bless you always for your devoted services to your congregations as well as your prayer and support to me, as your Superintendent.

November is already started, and it is with great honor we remember the veterans, not only of our Canadian Armed Forces but the veterans of this glorious gospel who bore the burden in the heat of the day.  Many of our soldiers gave their lives so we could continue to enjoy freedom and blessings to live in such a great country of Canada.  We give tribute to those who gave sacrificial love to carry the message of salvation to a lost and dying world.  We honor them and give thanks to God for all of them.  Let us remember!

As we step into the colder months, may our spirits remain warm with gratitude, our prayers rich with praise, and our lives a testimony of His goodness.

We are now in the second week of February 2025, emphasizing the fact that time is swiftly passing and the adage of ‘time waits for no man’ is, as always, so relevant. As the Bible clearly states in Ephesians 5:16 “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil,” we are encouraged to make good use of our time, to use every opportunity that we can to understand the will of the Lord for our lives in the evil days we are now living. To go deeper with God should be our primary objective in life.

Following the Newfoundland Youth Camp and Camp Meeting 2024, my wife and I had the chance to visit some of our branch churches across Canada. Since each of the branches we visited has it mentioned in their respective newsletter article, I will not include much detail of each place we visited. However, I must state that it was very uplifting and exciting to see such growth happening across this great country, Canada.

Edmonton Special Meetings were anticipated for a long time, and it was priority on our list. With this being their first time to host Special Meetings, we were thrilled to attend from August 29 to September 1. All the events of their program were successful, and the anointing of the Holy Spirit was present to bless and encourage each one. I can only imagine what took place in each heart as we feasted on the Word of God and basked in His Holy presence. The messages, teachings, testimonies and blessings will long be remembered. From Edmonton, we travelled to Winnipeg, Manitoba, for the new church dedication. What a wonderful celebration with many travelling from different branch churches in Canada and other countries. It was an added blessing to have our newly appointed General Superintendent of Portland, Oregon, Reverend Olusola, join us to celebrate this milestone in Winnipeg. (Details and photos of this timeless occasion can be found on the Portland website).

Calgary, Alberta was our next destination. There we enjoyed sweet fellowship with the brethren with many memories made. From Calgary, we traveled to Fort McMurray where we spent some time with our daughter, her husband and family and our Church family.

Thank God we arrived back home, somewhat tired but elated with the progress of the gospel. The Lord continued to bless us as we again went on the road, December 17, to spend Christmas with our two daughters, their families, and the church family at Kitchener. As well, we took advantage of this time to visit the branch churches in Toronto, Ottawa and Moncton.

I trust you will enjoy reading all the articles in this newsletter. Great things are happening, and we owe the glory and praise to God! Lift your heart in thanksgiving as you read each page!

For the very first article of this newsletter, we are pleased to feature our newly established church group in Moncton, New Brunswick. As you read the article, you will sense the excitement of these brothers and sister, who have, after much prayer and support, witnessed the beginning of the Apostolic Faith work in their area. Let us all band together to pray for this new group and give them support in any way we can. God bless.
